NATURAL SHAMPOO/CONDITIONER RECIPES - helps for dandruff, hair growth and finding a natural healthy balance between dry and oily.

Let me start off by saying I have not used any synthetic products on my hair/head for almost a year now, I would say that is the first step to healthy head of hair, cutting out the chemicals that are destroying your natural oils that help maintain the scalp naturally and healthily, one of the mottos I live by is, "If you cant eat it, don't put it on your body!" ... all those harmful chemicals, of which the names we can can't even pronounce on the back of our shampoo/conditioner container, get absorbed by our skin!
The following washes help for dandruff, hair growth and overall helps your scalp regain and maintain a natural healthy head of hair:
  1. The Gel from Aloe Vera with a little bit of Almond Oil and/or Jojoba Oil, you can add a few drops of beneficial essential oils, I like to use Neem or Tea tree as they are really good for head and hair health, nice to add some aroma too, you put the gel and oil in a blender and its done! Use for a up to a week then make a new batch. You can also just use just the blended Gel if you don't have any oils.
  2. Coconut Oil or Olive Oil - at least once a week before I go to bed, I rub my scalp and hair with a bit of coconut oil or olive oil and sleep with it in, the next morning I wash it out with some aloe gel and water, or just water and my head and hair feels so soft and silky! (you can also melt and simmer lavender and/or rosemary in the oil, just strain the oil through a cheese cloth when done and wait for it to cool down, note: the longer you simmer the herbs for the better, some people some them for hours!)
  3. You can also just make herb infused water washes, the following herbs are known to be good for washes and all have lovely aromas, can be used combine or on there own: Chamomile, Lavender, Rosemary, Hibiscus, Green tea(great for hair growth and health), Rose Petals, Panax Ginseng (treats balding and promotes hair growth), Holy Basil (prevents hair loss and helps dandruff) and Liquorice root. Making the infusion is very easy, it is basically making a cup of tea, you add the desired herb and quantity you wish to add to a pot of water and boil for a few minutes (less or more herb dependant, find out the ideal temperature for the herb you are working with). Then let it sit over night in the fridge, stirring occasionally. Then the next day strain the herb through a cheese cloth, and heat up the tea to a warm temperature if you cant handle the cold tea on your head (I know I struggle!) Soak your head and hair in the pot and massage some of the water into your scalp, wrap a towel around your wet head and let it sit for about 15 minutes then take off the towel and rinse with fresh water.
TIPS FOR A HEALTHY HEAD OF HAIR:
  1. Again, cut out the chemical filled shampoos/conditioners!
  2. Eat a healthy, balanced diet, watch out for dairy there is a link to dandruff. You would be surprised how much of your hair and head health depends on your diet! (zinc and selenium important)
  3. Let your hair naturally dry, do not blow dry, hair straightening is also terrible for head health.
NOTE: also remember to do an allergy test on your wrist a day before use to make sure you don't have and sensitivities to the herbs! and I wish you a healthy, natural head of hair!!! :)
